Thailand: a Shopper's Paradise
Whether your interest is Thailand’s cutting-edge fashion, or crafts and antiquities, Thailand is a haven in terms of selection and price, and the cities of Bangkok and Chiang Mai are its focal points.
While you're shopping, why not take a break along the way and relax at one of the many day spas each city has to offer.
Fashion shopping includes everything from large department stores to boutiques owned by individual designers (for an in-depth look at Thailand’s best designers, visit our Fashion Runway page).
Arts, crafts, and antiquities shopping includes lacquerware, silver, terra cotta, textiles, tribal crafts, sculpture, bronzes, and extraordinary wooden carvings.
Markets abound everywhere in Thailand, and you’ll find the best bargains there, although for top quality, high-end antiquities, smaller individual shops are often your best choice.

Travel tip in Bangkok: we recommend taking the BTS Skytrain, the Chao Phraya river taxi, or the brand new MRTA subway, to get you to your destination fast and comfortably.
Travel tip in Chiang Mai: you’ll find the city easily walkable, but will want to hire a taxi or tuk-tuk to take you to the outlying neighborhoods, where many of the better antiquities and crafts can be found.
